Unique solutions for a unique inventionโฏ
What sets REAC apart from other actuator manufacturers? We are curious and conscientious problem-solvers. Just ask the people who created the groundbreaking wheelchair simulator SIMO.
As a long-time rehabilitation equipment expert, Dimitris Gkainatzis has always wanted a tool for helping each wheelchair user to a better fit.
Why is this so significant? Because a wheelchair that doesnโt quite fit its user will not only make it less helpful in everyday life, it can also be downright harmful.โฏ
โ Almost all health issues that a wheelchair user might encounter, have to do with their seating position, says Charalampos โHarryโ Bourazanis, the designer behind SIMO.โฏ
Traditionally, youโd take the customerโs measurements, send them to the factory on an order sheet, and hope for the best. With SIMO, the customer is able to try out the proper seating position before their wheelchair is manufactured.โฏ
Taking SIMO from design to manufacturing, it was crucial to find the right component suppliers.
โ REAC helped us a lot, not only by accepting our small quantities, but also by adjusting their design according to our specifications as well as our quality requirements, Harry says.
REAC created unique versions of our RE2000 and RE3005 actuator models, as well as a flexible control system, all customized to the requirements of the simulator. In addition to functionality and quality, aesthetics were an important factor. SIMO needed ultra compact, attractive actuators that would blend in with the overall design.
Today, SIMO is a reality, with patents obtained in the USA and Europe. It attracts a lot of attention from both the industry and the academic world.โฏ
Everyone at REAC is so proud to have played a small part in this important invention, by supplying components that help put SIMO in motion. We look forward to the positive impact itโllโฏ have on wheelchair usersโ quality of life.
