’Fika’ is our accountant’s secret problem-solver

Sylwia Sokolowska loves the beach so much, she does not mind driving three hours to get there. Luckily, she only has to drive eight minutes to get to REAC. Here, she works to make everything run smoothly for everyone. Her best time for difficult discussions is over a cup of coffee. ”It’s a relaxed and informal setting, good for talking and finding solutions.”

How would you describe your job at REAC?
I’m an accountant, which means handling financial data, but also working with different teams. So I work with both documents and humans.

What do you like most about your job?
Something that gives me a lot of satisfaction is that my work has a real impact on the organization. I help sort out conflicts and problems, and interact with people to find solutions and get results.

What is the most challenging part of your job?
The laws regarding my work change a lot, Every day we have to find out if there are any changes — keeping up to date can be challenging. In Poland the laws change often, which brings new processes, for example new ways of doing invoices. We must find all the changes, implement them into our daily work, and explain them to people in other departments. That can be difficult. The best time to talk about complicated things is during ’fika’, because it’s a relaxed and informal setting, good for talking and finding solutions.

What keeps you motivated during the workday?
I’m motivated by the knowledge that my work genuinely supports the operations of the company, and that it makes life easier for my coworkers, by streamlining complex processes, so that everything can run more smoothly for everyone. I also enjoy interacting with people, the feeling of being a team.

How did you end up in this profession and at this company?
My grandfather is also an accountant, and I used to help out in his office while I was growing up. Back then, I said I’d never be an accountant, but life can be unexpected. I started working at REAC two and a half years ago. I was looking for a job close to home, and it’s only an eight-minute drive to REAC. And my son’s school is on the way! I didn’t know about REAC before, but now I feel at home here.

What brings you joy in everyday life?
My family, especially my son and husband. They make me happy. My son is ten years old, which is the perfect age, because I can talk to him like an adult, and do things together. Travelling also brings me joy. Even if I have only a few hours or days, I like to get out of the city, and go to the sea, the mountains, or a lake, just to spend time with nature. I love going to the coast, by the Baltic sea. It’s a three-hour drive, but it’s worth going even if only for a day, just to wind down and relax for a bit.

What do you like to do when you’re not working?
Spend time with family and friends. I like going to the cinema, to the theater or to concerts. Live music is great!

Do you have any unexpected talent or hobby that might surpise people?
Maybe sewing? I used to sew clothes and blankets for my son, when he was little. It’s so satisfy-ing to have things that you’ve made yourself. But nowadays, I don’t have the time.

Do you have a “happy place”?  Home. It’s where we can always feel safe and comfortable.

If you could have any three people as dinner guests, who would you invite?
I have such a big family, I can’t choose only three! We spend a lot of time with my three brothers and their families, as we all live in the same city.

Do you have any dreams that you would like to fulfill?
Of course! I hope everyone has dreams. I’d like to travel more, to see faraway places that have always fascinated me, like Japan. I always want to continue evolving, learning and experiencing new things. Like doing this interview! I don’t like to talk about myself, but I have to try, because new experiences will make me grow as a person.

The purpose of REAC’s products is to help people improve their quality of life.
What does quality of life mean to you?
The most important part of life, to me, is health. If you and your family are healthy, you have everything. Then, money, cars, and big houses don’t matter.
