Feet on the ground, eyes on the sky – meet our Painting Area Leader

At work, Łukasz Pitura handles our packing and shipping confidently, with both feet on the ground. But he dreams of someday travelling through the sky at the speed of sound. As an award-winning painter, he would also like to get back to his art in the future, a dream that is encouraged by his wife. ”She has taught me to be more confident and brave.”

How would you describe your job at REAC?
I work with packing and shipping products to customers, so we’re at the very end of the process. It’s a good job, quite easy, although it can be hectic sometimes. We do our best to make sure everything is perfect.

What do you like most about your job?
Good working conditions. Everything in the warehouse is well organized, which makes work easier. I also like the thought of contributing to helping people.

What is the most challenging part of your job?
I can’t really think of anything. Nothing can surprise me, I guess, since I’ve worked here for ten years. When I started, it was challenging to get to know new people and learn new tasks, but now I know how everything works. I’ve worked in several different departments at REAC.

What keeps you motivated during the workday?
Fika, haha. Joking aside, it feels good to have a lot of experience and be confident in what I’m doing.

How did you end up working at REAC?
A guy from my village recommended me. He was working at REAC at the time, and he knew that I was looking for work, as I had just come back from Germany where I’d been working at an industry, building roof trusses.

How do you think your co-workers would describe you?
I think they would say positive things, such as patient, and helpful. I work as a Painting area leader, so people know that they can come to me for help.

What brings you joy in everyday life?
Cooking, especially over an open fire. Once, when I volunteered for a big charity auction, I coo-ked 40 liters of gulasch-style soup. Travelling, and animals also bring me joy. We have a rabbit, a cat and fish at home, and I dream of getting a dog.

What do you like doing when you’re not working?
I like to stay active, working out at the gym, and biking or walking in the forest, where there’s
peace and quiet. It helps my mind rest.

Do you have any talent unexpected talent or hobby that might surprise people?
I used to paint many years ago, and I even won prizes for my paintings. I don’t know if I can still do it, but I think so. My wife encourages me to start again.

Do you have a “happy place”?  On the beach at sunset. Or high up in the mountains — I love heights.

If you could have any three people as dinner guests, who would you invite?
There are thousands of interesting people in the world, so it’s hard to choose just three. But perhaps a few musicians—for example, the Polish rapper Wojciech Zawadzki (better known as Słoń), the DJ Headhunterz, and Michael Jackson. I would love to hear the stories of their lives.

Do you have any role models in life?
I’ve learnt a lot from my wife — how to save money, and to be more confident and brave.  And my grandparents – they showed me how to be a good person.

Do you have any dreams that you would like to fulfill? Someday I’d like to fly on a jetplane, as a passenger. I’ve been interested in planes, flying, and heights ever since I was a little boy. I’ve also done bungee jumping and skydiving. It gives me an incredible sense of freedom.

The purpose of REAC’s products is to help people improve their quality of life. What does quality of life mean to you?
Health, for both me and my family. At work, we produce components for products that help people. It’s hard to imagine when we only see the components. If we could see the finished wheelchairs and the people who use them, it would motivate us even more, in our hearts and minds.
